Friquently Ask Questions

GCF connects all people to the resources they need to continually increase the impact of their work.

  • How to wear, use, remove and dispose of masks ?

Remember, masks should only be used by health workers, people who care for the sick, and people who have respiratory symptoms, such as fever and cough.

  • What corona virus infection (COVID-19) treatments are available?

At present there is no effective treatment specifically for new corona virus infections. Vaccines may only be available in the next 18 months (2021). In the meantime, the best way is to take precautions.

  • Does the pneumonia vaccine protect you from the new corona virus?

Not. Pneumonia vaccines, such as the pneumococcal vaccine and the Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib) vaccine, do not provide protection against new corona viruses. This virus is so new and different that it requires its own vaccine. Researchers are trying to develop a vaccine against COVID-19 and WHO supports their efforts. Although the pneumonia vaccine is not effective against COVID-19, vaccination against respiratory diseases is highly recommended to protect your health.

  • How long does this virus last on the surface of the object?

It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 lasts on the surface of the object, but the behavior of this virus resembles other types of coronavirus. Coronavirus research, as well as preliminary information about the virus that causes COVID-19 disease, indicates the virus can survive on the surface of objects between a few hours to several days. The length of time the virus lasts may be influenced by different conditions (such as surface type, temperature or humidity of the environment). If you feel a surface might be infected, clean it with a simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect yourself and others. Wash your hands with soap and running water or, if not available, alcohol-based cleaning liquid (at least 60%). Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose.

  • What should I do if family members show symptoms?

Seek immediate medical attention if you or your child has a fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Call the health facility in advance to let you know if you have traveled to an area where a corona virus case (COVID-19) has been reported or if you have met someone who has traveled to the area and showed symptoms.

  • Can ultraviolet lights kill new corona viruses?

UV lamps should not be used to sterilize hands or other skin areas because UV radiation can cause skin irritation.

  • Should my child not go to school first?

If your child shows symptoms of fever, fatigue and dry cough, you should seek treatment and follow the instructions of health professionals. Rest the child at home and avoid crowded places to prevent the spread of disease. If your child does not show symptoms your child should stay in school, unless there is a notification from the authorities stating otherwise. Teach children clean behavior, including the following behaviors., Frequently wash hands with soap and running water or cleaning fluid made from alcohol (60%) Covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with folded elbows or tissues, which are immediately discharged into a closed trash can after use * Avoid touching the eyes, mouth and nose when the child's hands have not been washed with soap

  • Does the new corona virus affect children or pregnant women?

This is a new virus and we have not gained enough knowledge about how the virus affects children or pregnant women. What is known: anyone of any age group can be infected with a virus. What we know, so far the number of cases of children is fairly small. In a few cases, new corona virus infections can be fatal and most of them occur in the elderly (elderly) group and those with chronic (chronic) health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.

  • Can the new corona virus be transmitted through mosquito bites?

Until now there has been no evidence that the new corona virus can be transmitted by mosquitoes. The new corona virus is a respiratory virus that spreads mainly through coughing or breathing of an infected person. To protect yourself, wash your hands often with soap and running water or if it is not available, with an alcohol-based cleanser (at least 60%). Also, avoid close contact with anyone who coughs and sneezes.

  • Why should a person suspected of being infected with corona virus be isolated for at least 14 days?

Corona virus usually shows symptoms within 1 - 14 days. Therefore, people who are suspected should be isolated for 14 days, both in hospitals, homes or other locations and monitored for symptoms that appear such as fever, coughing or shortness of breath. To confirm corona virus infection, suspect can take the test several times. During isolation, suspects must follow all health worker orders to prevent the spread of the virus. On the other hand, health workers and us together must always show empathy and compassion. Those who are isolated are usually experiencing loneliness, worry and clearly, the pain they experience is not their own volition. You can support them by finding out their needs and helping as far as you can.
